Transsiberian

  1. I actually saw a movie before the end of the month! Hurray.

In short, I loved it! It was suspenseful in all the right places, and the twists were twists and not predictable. The acting was amazing, and the visuals were beautiful.

And of course, Sir Ben Kingsley was in it. I mean, I'll watch anything with him in it. The accent was perfect! That guy is amazing. (think I just realize i have a crush on him)

I think my favorite part was Jessie. She explained that her character was complex and had a dark past, and of course she would be the one to do a killing, but I was okay with that. It wasn't obvious that that was going to be the case, the storyline for her character. You didn't see her revert back to her dark days, but you saw her struggle with her complexity. Sure, she might have gone a little too far with the bashing Carlos' head in, but if you were in that position could you say that you would stop? It wasn't over done, it wasn't "she's dark again!" (did I just repeat myself?)

It does make you wonder if she's dealt with a dead body before, an accidental death before. Either way, she's a well written complex character.

Besides the beautiful cinematography, I liked the script the most. It flowed and played out, to character, and everything was believable.

I think this might be my favorite so far. Once was up there, so was You Can Count on Me (still need to see Tell No One...opps), but I love the subtle suspense of this one.

  2. I'm glad you liked it. I came across it randomly one day when I had a free preview of showtime. I must've missed the first 10 minutes or so of the movie, but I was instantly sucked in and was late to wherever I was going at the time. Thank god for my handy dandy DVR.(hee hee)
Anyway, I loved the suspense, the tension, the characters, especially Jessie's character too. Maybe it was the name...
I love that we don't know her whole background, we just get a hint about her past. Her best line - "kill all my demons, Roy, and my angels might die too". That stuck with me. throughout the movie, it still kept me guessing. I love the setting on the train too. makes everything so much more claustrophobic and tense.
I feel like watching this again!

  3. I know, I feel like watching it again too! I actually watched it yesterday at work (hehe) to make sure I finished it in time, and also didn't think Mom would like it. But, before wrapping it up in the handy dandy envelope, I put it on for her. She loved it. Again, mentioned the amazingness of Sir Ben.

I love, LOVE, that line too.
I think they did a good job with just giving you enough of her background to be interested and know more, but not be upset that you never find out.

The train is a perfect place to have a suspense movie. It's been done before, but nothing this captivating. It made me want to ride the train to experience it, yet never want to get on for fear of crazy China/Russia politics.

  5. Totally. At least I get to ride one into Canada. That's a good train to ride. Wonder if they have one through the width of Canada. That way you get the cold/snow of the Transsiberian one, but it's all Canadians so they'd be awesome.
