Take 2

These are the films that we loved when we were younger, the ones that we have a special bond with.  We want to share these films with each other by suggesting another viewing; to see if these are still filmed gems or have become the embarrassment of our youth.

  1. This page came out of one of Melissa and I's epic long conversations. I don't remember how it came up, but she asked if I remembered "Flash Gordon." I mean, who didn't remember that movie!

(Apparently Jessica, who somehow has never seen this movie. A rarity in these parts.)

Then "Flash Gordon" became "Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo" and "Ice Pirates." All of these movies, for one reason or another, has stuck with us throughout adulthood. (At least for Melissa and I.) However, what you remember as a child is definitely not the same as an adult.

I actually had encountered this a few years ago when I purchased Breakin 2 (yes I still have it on dvd. you know you want to borrow it). I watched it pretty soon after and had to message my brother, "Was Breakin 2 as cheese as it is now back then?" His simple answer, "Yes."

I loved this movie when I was little. All the dancing, all the bright clothes, the way they raised the money for the center. Somewhere between the 5 year old me and the 26 year old me I forgot to remember the opening 5 minutes where they literally dance down the alley way, grabbing more dancers as they go. Um....wait, what?

So now, I suggest this viewing...I suggest you rewatch, or watch for the first time (*cough*Jessica*cough*)...

  2. By beautiful accident, Flash Gordon was on HBO this afternoon. Of course, I had to watch it.

From what I remember of my youth, only three things about that movie. I remembered the Hawk people, the epic song, and the fight scene on the rotation circle platform. Once I started watching it, I remembered a few more things. Nothing too important, though.

Man, oh man, this movie is awesome. Awesome in the cheesy way. The dialogue was horrible, but perfect. The special effects were bad, but matched the atmosphere of the film. The story line was ridiculous, yet it awesome. Just plain awesome.

It's one of those really bad movies that are just fun to watch and make fun of, and you aren't embarrassed to say so. It just brings a smile to your face. Love it!
