Moonlight

  1. I'm the first one to recommend a series? A little shocked.
I will warn you, it is very similar in basic elements to Twilight; male vampire falls for a mortal female and vice versa.

However, this is cooler. I really love this series, and am really sad they canceled it after only one year. And right before the full on craze of vampires. Oh-well. Alex gets to move on to Hawaii 5-O, which I'm looking forward to.
My little geek heart also goes nuts cause one of the other cops, Brian White, was on The Shield a season before Alex O'Laughlin. It's like Buffy/Angel, I'm more inclined to watch, and love, shows with actors from The Shield (Anthony Anderson anyone!)

I hope you enjoy. I hope I do better than last month.
I only ask that you watch the first episode, but I am optimistic that you will continue to finish the series.

  2. Moonlight is in the mail and on it's way to my mailbox!

  3. I got Christee and Nyrie's copy yesterday. Can't wait to watch it again. The best shows either get canceled early or only last two seasons. (Okay, Buffy was 7 and The Shield was 6)

  4. Guess what I did!! I watched it again. So that means...

    SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!!!

Well, I never said it wasn't chessy. I mean, it's a show about vampires, of course it's going to be. But, cheesy awesome! I do hope you guys watch more than one episode. The first, especially this one, is just an introduction to the characters, it gets so much better as the show goes on.

I think what I loved most about this was that it didn't follow the expected mythology that you know (and love) about vampires. I love the opening scene, his fantasy about the explanation of their kind. That ties into my Vampire class at UT, how the myth that we know isn't the original one, nor like any other one.

While this is a total vampire show, none of the vampires really are stereotypical. You aren't watching Kindred, or Buffy, or Twilight. These are unique characters, but still not way out there that you can't connect to it/feel comfortable with what you know.

Besides Alex/Mick being such a hot vampire, as is required of them, he is the good guy, yet he does have a violent streak. He's not all goodie goodie, the vampires = dangerous attraction still be present.
The other thing I loved about this series is the supporting characters. I LOVE Joseph. He steals your heart later on in the show. Any storyline with him, and he has some good ones, are entertaining to watch.

Sure, sometimes the flash of the LA environment is a little annoying, but I think that connects to the fact that Beth works for a smut online news site. I liked that element, actually. Vampires are pop culture, something that appeals to our guilty pleasure in more than one way. That's exactly what smut has become in the 21st century. They both drain the life force. How's that for philosophical explanation.

Please, if you didn't watch some more episodes. I know I said you were only required to watch one, and you still are. It's just, it get so awesome after the pilot.

Oh, and did you notice...Beth is Sophia Myles. She was in the Orlando Bloom episode of Extras.

  5. I don't think it's too much to require the first two episodes of any recommended series. It's rare that the first episode alone is enough to really judge a show.

So, Lisa, out of curiosity: did you get into Moonlight before you started watching Angel?

  6. I guess it's not. Especially since with two it's only 1 1/2 hours. I'm hoping that the episodes will be interesting enough to make you interested enough in watching the whole series. It's only one.

I did watch Moonlight before Angel. I didn't watch any Whedon-verse until we watched Buffy Season 1 at your place. Remember, it's all your fault.

There are connections, for sure. Maybe I should change my vampire script to a girl vamp and a guy since all of them are guy vamps and a girl. NA....vamp guys are hot.

  7. ok. so after months of these movies being posted... the only thing I saw was one episode of Moonlight.
It was interesting but definitely had some cheese factor, especially the car ride scenes.
I had the intention of continuing, but I didn't get past ep. 1.
I'll try it again another time.

  8. I never said it wasn't chessy. But I think that's what made it fun. It had it's good moments, and it has it's cheese. And Alex is effing nice to look at!
    And it had Shield actors.

I also liked the characters. Joseph was one of my favorites.
I hope you end up watching more episodes. It's fun and easy to watch over and over and while you're doing other things.
